Be Assertive by Improving Your Verbal & Non-Verbal Skills

Are you naturally shy? Do you have trouble being assertive at work? You’re not alone. Many female executives have trouble asserting themselves in a male-dominated business environment. But even if you’re not out-going by nature, you can learn to be more assertive by improving your communication skills. The keys are your verbal and non-verbal skills. These open the door to effective business communication.

Our Assertiveness Training for Female Executives seminar helps you develop your verbal and non-verbal skills. Our seminar will cover the following areas:

* Fear of speaking in front of an audience * Developing clear, concise and forceful language * Improving eye contact, body language, body movement * Voice control, phrasing, rate, pitch, speaking style * How “small talk” makes a “big impression”
Our seminar will be conducted in two phases: the first provides verbal and non-verbal tips. The second involves you; members of the audience will put into practice what they’ve learned.

JULY Meeting FEW Behind the Scenes in the Movie Industry

Ever Wondered How A Film Gets Off The Ground? Want To Know What Goes On Behind The Scenes In The Movie Industry?

At our July FEW meeting we are privileged to have as our speaker, Yukie Kito, producer of the internationally acclaimed Japanese film, TOKYO SONATA. Yukie has a broad and varied range of experiences in both the Japanese and Hollywood film industries.

Yukie will give us a peek at the film business in Japan and address questions like: “How was the internationally acclaimed film TOKYO SONATA born?” For anyone who doesn’t know the film, it’s a film in Japanese, with a Japanese cast, and directed by a Japanese director. It went on to win an award at Canes International Film Festival, had a long run in France and opened in more than 70 cities in the US. It is a highly successful example of international co-production, and as producer, Yukie is rightfully proud.

Yukie will also talk about the behind scene issues of international film production using the production of TOKYO SONATA as her case study. In addition, she will talk about her experience working alongside acclaimed internationally known figures such as Mira Nair, Wayne Wang, and Oscar-nominee Ethan Hawke, as well as giving us a look at today’s market for those interested in the Japan film industry.

June Meeting For FEW-  Work to live or live to work?

image
Work to live or live to work? For many of us, there comes a time when it may feel like work has taken over and we’ve abandoned our dreams. Our speaker this month is living proof that it doesn’t have to be this way.

Kristi Hemmer first took a year off to check off her Life to Do List things like raft the Zambezi, sandboard in South Africa and climb Kili. Then she took a year off to “be.” She lived on $20 a day for seven months in 10 countries to write one book. And now, she is about to take two years off to do “whatever.” Whether it’s sitting on a beach with your SPF 8 tanning oil, teaching women in Jaipur skills that empower them, or finally learning another language, Kristi has tips, resources, and experiences that will inspire you to do just that. If you want or need that break, whether it’s for one month, six months, or longer, come and join us at the Wesley Center in Omotesando on June 10 to find out how she’s done it and how you can too. Really, you can.

FEW May Monthly Meeting “The Reality of Internet Security”

image

The Internet, we are told, is a dark and dangerous place. It’s full of cyber terrorists, fraudsters, scammers and evil hackers, all of whom wish to do us harm. A staggering variety of products claims to be able to keep us safe and sound while we shop online, share digital photos with random strangers, store personal secrets on USB thumb drives, broadcast our exact location on the web…

The reality is that there are no easy ways to protect yourself when using the Internet, and most security products are utter junk. There are, however,  fundamental security principles that can be applied to any situation. This talk details the fundamental principles of security and how they can be used in everyday life.

FEW Meeting March, 2010 Setting Up A Business In Japan. From The Beginning Of The Story To Now

Chuck first came to Japan in 1985 with what he calls a “real job,” and expected to stay a year or two. After a year, his wife to be, Kelly, joined him and they started their life together in Kobe. Both loved their life in Japan and experiencing the Japanese culture, however, there were those niggling moments when they just wanted that Mexican bagel or particular breakfast cereal from home. They started importing these items using the personal import system and with no idea of what was to come, the foundations for FBC were laid.

Chuck will tell us about his background, the process of coming to Japan and setting up FBC. He’ll be sharing with us the tough stuff he’s faced and how he’s beaten it, including the Kobe earthquake and it’s impact on FBC. He’ll also share his personal three tips for business success in Japan. Come along to find out more about setting up a business in Japan and to learn from someone who’s been there and got the t-shirt!  More info and directions
