A Night at the Movies: Starfish Hotel

FEW movie night (small).jpg

Here's your chance to meet and hear the UK-born, Japan-based writer/director of Starfish Hotel, John Williams, talk about making Japanese language feature films in Japan and then see the movie afterward with English subtitles.

Based in Japan since 1987, John wrote and directed eight short films and a documentary before releasing his debut Japanese language feature, Firefly Dreams in 2001. Firefly Dreams earned strong praise in publications such as Variety and The Japan Times as well as winning six prestigious international film awards. In 2001 John was nominated for Best New Director by the Japanese Society of Directors for this film.

"Starfish Hotel is an original Japanese Gothic mystery that blends hard-boiled American detective fiction and Japanese tales of the supernatural to chilling effect. Fans of Japan's rich mystery and supernatural genres, such as those of the works of novelist Haruki Murakami, will be sure to find the film compelling and captivating."
