2006 Career Strategies Seminar

Achieving Success with your Career in Japan

The 14th Foreign Executive Women (FEW) Career Strategies Seminar took place on April 22nd, 2006 at Temple University in Minami Azabu.

Nearly 100 women, including FEW members and non-members, turned out for this special event designed for women living in Japan who are looking for a new career or career motivation. Participants hailed from all industries, ages, and areas of Japan, and shared an information-packed day with a group of inspiring women.

“An absolutely professional, warm and comfortable atmosphere all at the same time. Thanks so much to everyone”, said one participant.
“Thank you for a wonderful day. It was excellent inspiration”, said another.

Two of the women who made the event such a success were Alison Pockett and Carolyn Pover. Alison Pockett, founder and president of Magellan – The Financial Planning Company, also President of the British Chamber of Commerce Tokyo, was kind enough to emcee the day. She was joined by keynote speaker Carolyn Pover, president and publisher of The Weekender, Being A Broad in Japan, Alexandra Press and Broad-Minded Business.
Following the keynote addresses, participants adjourned for an excellent lunch, which was kindly provided by our sponsors.

In the afternoon there were smaller workshops enabling participants to gain a deeper understanding of the Japanese job market. The workshops were led by women who've made careers in IT, advertising, finance, marketing, consulting, writing/editing, HR and training, PR, and last but not least, women entrepreneurs.

The day ended with a raffle for donated restaurant and salon vouchers, bottles of wine and other gifts, followed by a wine and cheese party.

Created by women for women in Japan in 1990, the FEW Career Strategies Seminar is designed to address many of the issues foreign women face in working in Japan with both inspirational accounts and practical information.
The next Seminar will likely be held in late 2007 or early 2008.

Free to all participants was the comprehensive Career Guide 2006. This guide is a must-have manual outlining resources and instructive information about working in Japan.
The Career Guide 2006 can now be obtained for ¥3000 (only ¥2500 for FEW members). Please contact us at few@gol.com. The guides can also be purchased at FEW meetings.
