Topic:

Manager, wife, mother, writer, calligrapher, cook, friend, lecturer, teacher, traveler, homemaker, dancer, reader – these all describe Karen, and she has a passion for all of the roles she plays. Karen believes it is important to live life as your own creation. She sees no reason why you should limit yourself by saying “this is who I am, this is what I do” since your roles should change and grow just as you do. In Karen’s talk with FEW members she does not propose to offer a formula, or even advice, (well, some!) but hopes to have an open and honest discussion with women about what they want – and how they are going about getting it. Karen believes creating balance, measuring success, finding happiness are individual markers – and sees no need to ever compare yourself to anyone.

Karen Hill Anton is Managing Director of KHA Associates, an organization offering corporate training in diversity, cross-cultural competence, assertiveness, interpersonal communication skills, and work/life balance. Her client list includes Eli Lilly, AIG, Pfizer, Corning, and Deutsche Bank. Since 2003 she has managed the diversity program for Citigroup in Japan.

Karen is well known as the writer of the popular column “Crossing Cultures” (Japan Times 1990-99), and is widely respected for her no-nonsense approach to cross-cultural living. Readers and critics have praised her as representing a successful model of cross-cultural adaptation.

Originally from New York City, Karen is a permanent resident of Japan and has lived in Shizuoka prefecture with her family since 1975.
