Cost: FEW Members ¥2,000 / Guests ¥5,000 (supper and drinks included)

Speaker: Debbie Howard, founder and president of Japan Market Resource Network

Topic: Japan's Changing Consumer

The economic doldrums of the past 13 years have forced both individuals and businesses to look at things in a different way, and the Japanese consumer is changing in ways that bode well for foreign products and services. Debbie Howard, founder and president of Japan Market Resource Network, will address the implications of these changes.

In addition to the macro topics of consumer confidence, individualism, new style parenting, and the aging of Japan, Debbie will also share with us highlights of her own years in Japan and her transition from the corporate environment to the formation of her own market research company.

Debbie has lived and worked in Japan for nearly 19 years. She is the founder and president of Japan Market Resource Network, and is the first woman president of the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan. She first came to Japan in 1985 to expand her marketing career internationally, and worked for four years for the marketing research division of McCann-Erickson Hakuhodo. She graduated from the University of South Carolina with a BA in journalism, and attended Georgia State University Graduate Business School. She worked in city government, publishing, and the forest products industry prior to coming to Japan. Debbie has a 27-year career in marketing and communications.
